Romance Radar: April 2021

Holy busy month of March, Batman!

PEOPLE! I must apologize for not posting during the past month. With the world ever-so-slowly trying to make its way out of the pandemic, things have undoubtedly gotten a little more chaotic for everyone. I myself am no longer working from home. #SadPanda It is my goal to post something new every week, but that didn't happen...obvi...SO! To make up for it, I am bringing you a jam-packed Romance Radar for the month of April. There are So. Many. Books. Coming out that I had to create a Top 10 for the month! Romances that don't make the cut will still get some love from me in my "Honorable Mentions" section at the bottom of this post because let's face it: I'll still read the shit outta them. So without further adieu:

Top 10 Releases for April (in order by date)

The Broken Vessel (The Chronicles of Luna Moon #2) by Winter Rose

Release Date: April 2

Why I'm Excited: So I've been anticipating this book since August 2019 when I read book 1 (The Last Vessel). In fact, it's been so long (and I read so much), that a reread of book 1 will be necessary before I dive into book 2. All that being said, this is a fun fantasy RH series about a young woman who doesn't know who (or what) she is.

The Intimacy Experiment (The Roommate #2) by Rosie Danan

Release Date: April 6

Why I'm Excited: If you haven't read The Roommate by Rosie Danan, please do do do! She certainly knows how to deliver both sweet and spicy in her romances while also drawing attention to important issues, i.e. the exploitation of sex workers. Oh, and did I mention defying gender norms? Book 2 will feature a supporting character from book 1, so as always, I encourage you to start at the beginning even if it's not totally necessary. (But it's just a really cute book, so why wouldn't you?)

Life's Too Short (The Friend Zone #3) by Abby Jimenez

Release Date: April 6

Why I'm Excited: The Friend Zone gave me ALLLLLLL the feels. The Happy Ever After Playlist was my #3 Book of 2020 and made me ugly cry. So needless to say, Abby Jimenez's next story in the series is something I can't wait to get my hands on. Preordered. Done.

Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle

Release Date: April 6

Why I'm Excited: When my husband purchased Sarah Hogle's debut novel, You Deserve Each Other, for me on a whim (isn't he the best?) I was skeptical. It wasn't something I would have picked for myself. Who would have known it would become the 44th most shelved Romance on Goodreads in the past three years? No pressure for her sophomore enemies-to-lovers release, huh?

Badly Behaved by Meagan Brandy

Release Date: April 7

Why I'm Excited: want angst? Meagan Brandy can serve you angst with a shot of tequila on the side and then hit you over the head with a plot twist you never saw coming. Check out her Brayshaw series if you haven't already done so, too!

Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne

Release Date: April 13

Why I'm Excited: I discovered The Hating Game at the library by chance in 2018 and thought 'What the hell!' Checked it out. Devoured it. Ended up buying a copy for myself. Even as that rom-com took the world by storm, I can't say I loved Thorne's sophomore release, 99 Percent Mine. I realize I might be in the minority with this opinion, but regardless, I'm hopeful about Second First Impressions.

Love in Colour: Mythical Tales from Around the World, Retold by Bolu Babalola

Release Date: April 13

Why I'm Excited: While it may not even be a romance novel at all, this collection of love stories, folktales, and reimagined myths will take the reader around the world with a strong focus on West Africa.

Devil Incarnate (Boys of Preston Prep #4) by Angel Lawson and Samantha Rue

Release Date: April 14

Why I'm Excited: Not gonna lie...I'm not excited, so much as scared! No but seriously, Boys of Preston Prep books 1-3 were all 5 star reads for me, and one of my Top 5 series of 2020. No, I'm scared because we know who the main character is (bad dude), what he's done in books 1-3 (bad stuff and Devil Incarnate will be a bully romance)...and I'm just wondering how Lawson and Rue are going to make it work? #NailBiter

Graduation and Gifts (Untouchable #8) by Heather Long

Release Date: April 20

Why I'm Excited: Frankie and her guys are back! It's absolutely CRAZY that this endearing AF reverse harem series is 8 books deep and I'm still totally invested. Heather Long knows what she's doing, people. I mean, what HS senior wouldn't want 4 guys completely devoted to her? *shrugs*

Wolf Forged (Arbor Falls #3) by Maya Nicole

Release Date: April 21

Why I'm Excited: Maya Nicole's just become one of my favorite RH authors. Full stop. She knows how to write fantasy/paranormal/shifter romances in which you become invested in every single character, even if/when they fuck up. I recommend her to anyone who is a fan of, or beginning to become a fan of, the reverse harem genre.

Phew! You good? That was a lot, huh? But we can't forget the "Honorable Mentions". These are books I'm also excited about for the month of April (and they all just happen to be reverse harems!):

  • Fallen Wolf (Full Moon #1) by Belle Harper

  • April 1

  • Shifter RH

  • Last Chance World (Immortals of Talonswood #4) by Alex Lidell

  • April 2

  • Fantasy RH

  • Blood Debt (Kingdom of Blood #1) by Callie Rose

  • April 9

  • Vampire RH

  • My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom (Vol. 5) by Satoru Yamaguchi

  • April 13

  • Manga RH

  • Brutal (Saint and Sinners #3) by Ruby Vincent

  • April 15

  • Contemporary Mafia RH

  • Rejected Mate (Feral Shifter #1) by Callie Rose

  • April 30

  • Shifter RH

  • Breath of Frost (Dark and Wicked Fae #2) by Cate Corvin

  • April 30

  • Fantasy RH

Happy reading, bibliophiles!
